EXO, one of K-pop’s most influential groups, is making waves on two fronts this year with an eighth studio album and a sixth world tour that is set to bring their expanded fictional universe to stages across 13 cities.

“REVERXE,” the group’s eighth studio album, released on January 19, has notched number one positions in 46 countries worldwide.

The record also claimed the top spot on iTunes’ Top Albums Chart in 46 countries, earned China’s QQ Music “Triple Platinum” status for sales, surpassing CNY3 million and led digital album rankings on Kugou Music.

In Japan, it topped Recochoku’s daily album chart and held the number one position on AWA’s real-time rising rankings.

Domestically, it dominated the Hanteo Chart’s weekly tally and secured all top nine slots across five Tencent Music platforms.

Lore and meaning beyond lyrics

At the core of REVERXE is a fresh take on the group’s iconic fictional universe, the same world that sparked widespread fascination with K-pop storytelling years ago.

Where the English word “reverse” suggests turning back, the album reinterprets the concept to mean “a new world opening once again,” weaving this theme through every track.

The lead single “Crown” anchors this vision, using royal imagery to frame cherished connections as treasures worth defending.

Musically, the track defies genre lines, fusing Atlanta trap percussion, thunderous heavy metal guitars, and pulsing EDM (electric dance music) synthesizers, a signature blend the group refers to as “SMP style.”

Its performance features eight backup dancers and a show-stopping move where members form a crown shape above their heads, quickly becoming a defining moment of the era.

Beyond Crown, the nine-track album showcases a remarkable range.

Pre-released tracks “I’m Home,” a cozy, heartfelt winter ballad, and “Back It Up,” an intense, high-energy number built for live performance, already built massive momentum during last year’s award season.

Other cuts like “Crazy,” “Suffocate,” “Moonlight Shadows,” “Back Pocket,” “Touch & Go,” and “Flatline” round out the collection, moving from moody R&B to upbeat pop and experimental soundscapes.

To deepen engagement with their universe, REVERXE included a cinematic promotional film centered on a “Total Lunar Eclipse” and a mysterious “Black Cloak Collective,” plus an EX-VISION digital edition with a short story by author Lee Hee-Joo titled “Short Novel.”

K-pop legends reclaim global stage

Now, the group is translating REVERXE’s success to the stage with EXO PLANET #6 – EXO’rizon, their first major tour since late 2019.

The run kicks off April 10-12 at Seoul’s KSPO Dome in Olympic Park, before heading to Ho Chi Minh City, Nagoya, Bangkok, Macau, Osaka, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Singapore.

While full ticketing and schedule details will be announced via official fan channels and social media, organisers confirm that global audiences will have access through Beyond Live and other online streaming options.

With demand for more tour dates and venues already surging, EXO is proving that its influence remains as strong as ever.
