“Gird your loins!” as Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci in the film The Devil Wears Prada, called on to prepare for the whirlwind arrival of the film’s titular character, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep.
However, in real life, celebrities and fashion enthusiasts have been notified that the theme for the 2026 Met Gala will be an attempt to integrate high fashion with classical art, while also paying homage to the inauguration of the Condé Nast Galleries.
Weaving paintings and sculptures into fabrics
According to the curator of the Costume Institute gallery, Andrew Bolton, the theme of the 2026 Met Gala is “Costume Art.”
It will feature over 200 art pieces, sculptures and paintings spanning different eras that will be donned in at least 200 outfits and accessories to reiterate the close connection of fashion and art, with some claiming fashion is art and art is fashion.
The iconic Gala will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as usual, on May 4, 2026 where celebrities and guests are expected to follow the theme.
Among the core goals of the theme, aside from integrating fabric with art, is to trace historical pieces sheltered at the museum, including particular pieces dating back millennia, which represent the evolution of human culture through art.
The theme will also commemorate the inauguration of the Condé Nast Galleries established near the museum, which was named after its founder, who also established a publishing house in his namesake and owns the Vogue magazine.

It’s still ‘Wintour’ at the Met Gala
Despite resigning as editor-in-chief of US Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour remains the chief content officer of Condé Nast and the editorial director of Global Vogue.
This means that Wintour remains the sole decision maker in spearheading the highly anticipated annual Gala, a position that she has kept since she opened the event to the global stage of pop culture and entertainment.
Only a few known details have been announced regarding the “party of the year,” with even its guest list, which often includes A-list celebrities and aristocratic individuals, still a mystery.
But one thing is for sure: it remains a fundraising mission for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), dedicated to financially supporting local designers and rising fashion houses.
Prices for tickets for the Met Gala usually cost a whopping $75,000, unless you have been invited by Wintour herself.
The 2025 Met Gala, with a theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” raked in as much as $31 million, which was donated to CFDA.

Gala sponsors receive flak
The public was swift to call out the inclusion of billionaire Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez, as one of the main sponsors of 2026, arguing that their contribution would break the traditions of the Gala and other cultural institutions of excluding wealthy individuals and groups from financing such events to uphold their independence.
But Wintour gave a short yet straightforward response, saying that their presence and sponsorship “would be a great asset to the museum and to the event.”
