Singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus was present at the 2025 Academy Awards, not as a nominee or performer, but to meet with filmmakers and pitch original music for potential inclusion in future film soundtracks.

The “Flowers” singer walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, marking a rare Oscars appearance for the artist, whose presence was not linked to any nominated work.

Artist explores opportunities in film music

As discussed by The Hollywood Reporter, representatives for Cyrus confirmed that she attended the event to build relationships with directors and producers whose work she admires.

The intent was to open discussions about contributing music to upcoming film projects.

This approach highlights a new area of focus for the multi-platinum recording artist, who has increasingly expressed interest in the intersection of music and cinema.

Background in entertainment and evolving focus

Cyrus is widely known for her musical versatility and chart-topping hits, along with a background in acting that includes both television and film.

Her appearance at the Oscars suggests a strategic pivot toward original soundtrack work, an area where established recording artists have often found commercial success.

While she has previously appeared in and contributed to screen projects, this initiative appears to be a more targeted effort to establish herself as a songwriter and performer within the film industry.

Recent work in film music

Cyrus’s interest in the film world follows recent involvement in major soundtrack work.

As reported by Music News (UK), in October 2024, she co-wrote the song ‘Dream as One’ alongside Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson, and composer Simon Franglen.

The track features in the end credits of ‘Avatar: Fire & Ash’, the third film in the Avatar franchise, which is currently in theaters.

This collaboration marks a notable step into high-profile film music and signals Cyrus’s continued move toward scoring and soundtrack contributions.

Industry response and future outlook

While no official collaborations have been announced, industry sources indicated that Cyrus had several informal conversations with filmmakers during and after the event.

“That’s why I went to the Oscars this year. Everybody that came up and introduced themselves, I said, ‘Well, if you need any music, I’m around,’” Cyrus said.

Cyrus’s engagement at the Oscars reflects a broader trend of musicians seeking opportunities in film scoring and soundtrack creation as part of expanding their creative portfolios.
