Oba Femi survived the industry’s most dangerous structure, the ‘Hell in a Cell’, after beating Brock Lesnar in night one of ‘SummerSlam’ at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The ‘Hell in a Cell’, also known in the WWE as the Devil’s Playground, is a 20-foot cell structure with chain-link fencing.
It is known to house the most brutal matches in the company, and the only way to win the match is through pinfall or submission, unlike the average ‘Steel Cage’ match where escaping the structure would count as a win.
The ‘SummerSlam’ match was Femi’s first experience inside the cage, and Lesnar previously had two outings in the structure, both against The Undertaker.
Chaos in the cell
Both men utilised the match stipulation to deal as much damage to each other as possible, with Femi driving Lesnar to the steel steps early in the match.
He then immediately propped up a wooden table on the side of the cell and tossed Lesnar at the set-up.
But Lesnar recovered fast enough to strike his much younger opponent on the face with steel steps three times.
With Lesnar in control, he dismantled Femi with suplexes and steel chair shots, looking to wear down the 28-year-old Nigerian.
As Lesnar was priming his opponent for an F5, Femi got the counter and planted his opponent with a huge Chokeslam.
Femi hit a Fall From Grace, but Lesnar kicked out and rose to kick The Ruler in the face.
The Beast then launched three consecutive F5s on Femi, but it was not enough to put him down.
An irate Lesnar then ripped a section of the ring, tearing out the protective covering and exposing the wooden boards.
Lesnar, in a nod to The Undertaker, drove Femi’s head on the exposed part of the ring with a Tombstone Piledriver, but Femi kicked out once again to the shock of the crowd and the commentators.
An endorsement from ‘The Beast’
Lesnar then tried to strike Femi with a steel chair, but Femi punched the weapon out of Lesnar’s hand and picked him up to hit a Fall From Grace for the pinfall victory.
As Femi celebrated his win, an emotional Lesnar came back to the ring and hugged his opponent.
Lesnar raised Femi’s hand, and stated that The Ruler is the future.
“Minnesota, and the whole wide world watching this sh*t tonight… Here’s the future of the WWE,” Lesnar said pointing at Femi, as he congratulated him for the win.
