Anime fans in India will be glued to their screens this weekend as ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle’ is ready to release in Indian theatres on 12 September, with the film already breaking box office records.
What is unprecedented about Infinity Castle is that it is set to become the first anime film in India to have screenings as early as 5am due to sold-out advance bookings, which opened on September 5.
Within a few hours, theatres began to report sold-out or nearly full shows, particularly for the Japanese 2D IMAX version, according to Economic Times India.
In response, multiplexes have added several early morning screenings across cities.
The earliest show so far will be held at Inox Megaplex, Pune (5:15am), followed closely by Cinepolis Seawoods, Navi Mumbai (5:20am).
Other early shows have been added in Bengaluru (6:30am) and Delhi (6:40am).
‘Infinity Castle’ plot
Anime lovers are excited for this first instalment in a trilogy of movies, with ‘Infinity Castle’ focusing on the Demon Slayer Corps who are drawn into the Infinity Castle where Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the Hashira face the terrifying Upper Rank demons in a desperate fight while the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji begins.
The Infinity Castle arc was adapted from the climactic final arc of the 2016-2020 blockbuster manga, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, by Gotouge Koyoharu.

Box office success
The film has already premiered in many countries, retaining the top spot at the Korean box office for two weeks since opening on August 22 and grossing $6.3 million from 800,819 admissions.
The blockbuster has already broken records with its pre-sale numbers in India, which have grossed over $1million in just the first day, placing it on the path to becoming the highest-grossing non-Hollywood film in India.
Infinity Castle’s pre-sale performance has also surpassed that of other anime releases such as ‘Suzume’ and ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’, which had lifetime grosses of about ₹10cr each.
The high demand has driven ticket sales up to nearly ₹15cr the day before its release, according to Sacnilk.
The film will premier in the original Japanese along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English, expanding its reach across regions.
