F1 legend Lewis Hamilton admits he is “excited to experience” driving a Ferrari around the famous street circuit at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.
The Brit has had a fairly unspectacular start to life with the sport’s most iconic team and is currently sixth in the Drivers’ Championship standings, having scored 53 points.
Hamilton’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc is fifth on 61 points and has secured three of the last four pole positions after finally seeing the chequered flag for the first time last year.
The former Mercedes man is, however, confident that he can impress this weekend, saying he is feeling “more at home” with his new team and car as each race goes by.
Hamilton secured fourth place at the Italian (Emilia-Romagna) Grand Prix at Imola last weekend, powering through the field from 12th on the grid.
And having won three times in Monaco, he is keen to taste victory again.
Hamilton comfortable at Ferrari
The 40-year-old feels things are slowly coming together at Ferrari and told Sky Sports ahead of the race weekend: “I’m feeling more at home with a new team – things work differently here. They’ve never had anyone like me here, so it’s been challenging on both sides.
“But we’re really finding harmony, I think, in the way that we’re moving forward, and that’s a hope that starts to reflect on the rest of the season.
“I have for years always wondered what a Ferrari would feel like around this track.
“Even in my first year [2007] I think the Ferraris were very strong. Charles in the last few years has been rapid here.
“You can see the car works a lot different to what I’ve driven in the past. How that reflects me, I don’t know – I’m definitely excited to experience it.”

Qualification hopes
Qualifying is more important than ever at Monaco, where overtaking opportunities are limited, and Hamilton is hopeful the team can improve on their showings so far this season.
He added: “There are still areas that we need to improve on.
“Clearly qualifying has been our biggest problem so far this year. We’re not extracting the performance from the tyres, and that’s something we are working on.
“I have some ideas, the team have some ideas, and we’ll try those this weekend.
“It’s not the best place to try those things, but we’ll try to make a step and qualifying is everything here [in Monaco].”
