Broadway is set to welcome a major new star this spring as Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion officially joins the cast of ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’.
The Houston-born artist will make her Broadway debut at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre in a strictly limited engagement running from March 24 through May 17, 2026.
A historic casting moment for the production
Megan will take on the role of Harold Zidler, the flamboyant and commanding impresario of the Moulin Rouge cabaret.
In doing so, she becomes the first female-identifying performer worldwide to portray the character, a role traditionally played by male actors since the musical’s Broadway premiere in 2019.
Zidler has previously been portrayed by performers including Boy George and Bob the Drag Queen, with Megan set to succeed Bob following the conclusion of his run.
Producers have described her casting as a bold and celebratory choice during the musical’s final season on Broadway.

Megan embraces the Broadway challenge
In a statement with People, Megan called the opportunity “an absolute honor”, expressing excitement about stepping into the demanding world of live theatre.
While she is no stranger to commanding large stages, Broadway presents a different kind of performance discipline.
Her casting has reflected the continued crossover between mainstream music and theatre, as major recording artists increasingly expand their careers into stage roles.
A high-profile addition to a farewell season
The show is currently in its final Broadway season, with a closing date set for July 26, 2026.
Megan’s eight-week run is expected to draw both devoted theatre audiences and her global fanbase – known as the “Hotties” – adding fresh momentum to the production’s farewell stretch.
With this historic casting, ‘Moulin Rouge!’ appears ready to end its Broadway chapter on a high note.
