Both wrestling fans and talent on Sunday were surprised as Ron “R-Truth” Killings announced that the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) decided not to renew his contract with the company.

“I’m sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride. Thank you for all the love, support and appreciation you have given me over the years,” Killings stated on X.

The post has over 21 million views and more than 270,000 likes.

Fellow wrestlers express support

Killings’ post has received replies from numerous fans and wrestlers alike who voiced their support to the WWE veteran.

“In all seriousness, this is literally so heartbreaking… Thank you, Truth,” two-time WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley wrote, who was in a storyline with Killings last year.

“Forming Awesome Truth with you was one of the best runs of my career. No one made me laugh harder. Your energy, heart and smile lit up every room… and every arena. You’re not one of a kind, you’re one in a lifetime,” Killings’ former tag-team partner and rival The Miz stated.

Current WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena also paid tribute to Killings, posting a photo of the now former WWE wrestler on Instagram.

The post comes as R-Truth’s last major feud with the company was with Cena, as both fought for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the end of May.

The announcement came as a surprise since Killings was a staple of the company, playing a comedic character in the latter part of his 17-year career with the WWE.

He won several championships throughout his run, notably winning the now-defunct 24/7 Championship a whopping 54 times.

Fan furore over the release

Fans gave a more brutal and unforgiving response toward the release, as a majority lambasted the company for letting Killings go.

“R-Truth entertained us for years. We want him back,” one fan wrote on X.

“Getting rid of some of the most beloved WWE wrestlers does not make me want to pay record prices for tickets,” another fan stated.

Also, on this week’s “Monday Night Raw,” fans made their voices heard as they chanted “We want Truth!” before the show even started.
